Bangladesh envoy urges Libyan hospital to support expatriate health professionals

Major General Md Habib Ullah, the ambassador of Bangladesh to Libya, met with the acting director-general of Misrata General Hospital on April 13 to advocate for the full fulfillment of contractual entitlements for Bangladeshi health workers employed at the facility.


In a statement released on Wednesday, the Bangladeshi embassy in Tripoli stated.  


The meeting, held with Dr. Haytham Diuka, was attended by the embassy's First Secretary for Labour and focused on strengthening institutional cooperation between the two sides, as well as consolidating bilateral ties.


During the talks, Ambassador Habib Ullah thanked hospital authorities for providing employment opportunities to Bangladeshi professionals while urging management to ensure that workers receive all benefits stipulated in their contracts. The ambassador also conveyed the general satisfaction expressed by Bangladeshi professionals regarding their working conditions.


Dr. Diuka, for his part, praised the professional competence and dedication of Bangladeshi health staff at the hospital and acknowledged ongoing administrative and financial issues raised by the ambassador, noting that authorities were working to address them.


On the sidelines of his visit to Misrata, the ambassador held direct exchanges with several Bangladeshi health workers currently employed at the hospital, gathering first-hand accounts of their professional experiences and concerns.


The embassy said it had already consulted the relevant authorities and taken the necessary steps to resolve the issues raised.


A considerable number of Bangladeshi doctors, nurses, and paramedics work in various healthcare facilities in Libya.
