The Government of Bangladesh, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), officially launched the National Action Plan (NAP) 2026-2030 in Dhaka on Sunday, which aims to implement the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM).

A press release issued by the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment stated this. 

The event was convened by the co-chairs of the Bangladesh Migration Compact Taskforce (BMCT)—the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment—with technical support from the IOM. It also included a debriefing on the outcomes of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) 2026, highlighting Bangladesh's contributions to the global migration agenda.

On May 21, 2026, the Cabinet approved the National Action Plan.

Ariful Haque Choudhury, MP, Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, attended the event as chief guest, while Shama Obaed Islam, MP, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, chaired the occasion.

Special guests included Md. Nurul Haque, MP, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment; Mahdi Amin, adviser to the prime minister; and Ugochi Daniels, deputy director general for operations at the IOM.

Asad Alam Siam, foreign secretary, and Md Mokhtar Ahmed, secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, who serve as co-chairs of the BMCT, delivered remarks on the National Action Plan and reflections on the 2026 IMRF.

Speakers underscored the government's commitment to keeping migration safe, orderly and regular while maximising its contribution to national development and protecting the rights and dignity of Bangladeshi migrants. They emphasised the need for sustained collaboration among government institutions, international partners, civil society, the private sector and migrants for the plan's successful implementation.

The event also featured Bangladesh's renewed commitments and pledges toward implementation of the GCM, remarks from civil society representatives, and the official unveiling of the National Action Plan. A video documentary and thematic exhibition were presented at the venue, showcasing Bangladesh's GCM journey, achievements and challenges.
