Bangladesh and the United Kingdom (UK) today reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade, investment, and multilateral cooperation during a meeting between Acting Foreign Minister Humaiun Kobir and British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband.
The meeting was held in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), according to a foreign ministry press release on Monday.
The two ministers expressed satisfaction over growing bilateral relations, highlighting robust exports of Bangladeshi goods to the UK market and British investment in Bangladesh.
They also welcomed Bangladesh’s agreement to purchase Airbus aircraft for its national carrier.
Both sides agreed to extend reciprocal support in multilateral forums on issues including climate change, safe, orderly, and regular migration, and humanitarian assistance.
Miliband thanked Bangladesh for hosting around one million forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals and assured continued British humanitarian support for the Rohingyas.
Kobir conveyed an invitation from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman to the British Prime Minister Andy Burnham to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
