Bangladesh Airlines issued a statement clarifying a viral
social media video showing a passenger using a self-operated wheelchair at
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, calling assumptions about the incident
misleading and unfounded.
Passenger identified as Mohammad Mohsin, captain of
Bangladesh Cricket Wheelchair Team, traveled with Batik Air and is capable of
independent mobility using specialized equipment. Video shows him moving from
ramp coach toward boarding stairs without assistance.
Biman, serving as ground handler at the airport,
provides wheelchair or ambulift services for passengers with special needs upon
formal request from airlines in exchange for service charges. No such request
was submitted by Batik Air for this passenger, the airline stated.
According to Batik Air's station manager, Mohsin was
offered assistance multiple times but declined and chose to move independently.
Biman noted that Mohsin recorded the video using his own assistant, though
unauthorized video recording and content creation within airport premises is
strictly prohibited.
"Biman Bangladesh Airlines requests passengers and
the public not to share such videos in ways that could cause confusion or
spread misinformation," the statement read. Airline emphasized it
maintains highest professional standards in passenger service, safety and
respect for passenger dignity.
Statement aims to address misconceptions created by the
circulating video about Biman's role in ground handling services at the
airport.
