The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) conducted simultaneous firefighting and emergency response drills at its headquarters and the cargo area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Wednesday, 19 August afternoon.

The exercise aimed to verify the effectiveness of current fire safety protocols and enhance the rapid response capabilities of personnel during emergency situations.

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmud Siddique personally supervised the drills, accompanied by senior officials.

The exercise at the CAAB headquarters was led by Member (Security) Air Commodore Md. Asif Iqbal, while the drill at the HSIA Cargo Complex was coordinated by Member (ATM) Air Commodore Md. Nur-E-Alam.

The drills featured simulated fire scenarios designed to test the practical application of firefighting equipment, evacuation procedures, and inter-unit communication.

Participants practised techniques for controlling fires in their early stages, ensuring safe exit strategies, and maintaining seamless coordination between various responding units.

Speaking at the event, the CAAB Chairman emphasised that maintaining high-security standards for critical aviation infrastructure requires a combination of modern equipment and highly trained personnel.

“Regular training and drills are essential to increase the skills and preparedness of our staff,” the Chairman stated.

He further noted that these realistic simulations provide a vital opportunity to identify potential gaps in existing safety systems, allowing the authority to further strengthen security measures based on the findings.

Officials confirmed that today’s activities were pre-planned training exercises specifically designed to bolster the overall fire safety framework of the country's civil aviation operations.
