The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has organised a training programme for Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers and staff on operating newly deployed NUCTECH TR2000DC explosive trace detectors at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).

Experts from the equipment's manufacturer conducted the training, which was attended by 44 AVSEC officers and staff, CAAB said in a press release issued on Monday.

The participants received hands-on instruction on operating the devices, collecting samples, carrying out detection procedures, analysing results and ensuring operational safety.

The training was organised following CAAB's deployment of 25 new Explosive Trace Detectors (ETDs) at HSIA as part of efforts to strengthen and modernise the airport's security system.

The NUCTECH TR2000DC uses Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology and a non-radioactive ionisation source to detect minute traces of explosives and illegal narcotic substances. The devices can be used to screen passengers' baggage, cargo and other surfaces for suspicious substances.

According to CAAB, the new equipment will strengthen the airport's ability to detect explosives and narcotics, improve the effectiveness of security screening and enable quicker identification of potential security risks.

The authority said the training of AVSEC personnel, together with the deployment of the new technology, would also strengthen the airport's preparedness ahead of an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audit scheduled for November.

CAAB said similar training programmes would be conducted in phases for relevant personnel at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, Osmani International Airport in Sylhet and Cox's Bazar International Airport.

The authority said the programmes are part of its broader efforts to modernise airport security systems, strengthen technical capacity and develop a skilled AVSEC workforce in line with international standards.
