The High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh on Sunday cautioned visa applicants about potential immigration scams and urged them to remain vigilant against fraudulent activities targeting people seeking to travel to Canada.

In a post on its verified Facebook page, the mission highlighted several warning signs that may indicate visa fraud and advised applicants to be cautious when dealing with individuals or agencies claiming to facilitate visas.

Among the red flags mentioned were individuals pretending to represent Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on social media and requesting personal information from applicants.

The commission also warned against people demanding cash-only payments without providing receipts while claiming they can guarantee visa approval.

Another common indicator of potential fraud includes requests for visa fee payments through email, phone calls, or bank transfers, the mission said.

The advisory further noted that work recruiters offering visa documents containing multiple errors or inconsistencies could also signal fraudulent activity.

The Canadian mission urged prospective applicants to seek information only from official sources and encouraged them to review guidance available on the government’s website to protect themselves from immigration fraud and scams.
