Dhaka hoteliers honour Alamgir Hossan
Bangladesh hospitality and tourism figures gathered in Dhaka on Monday evening to congratulate Md Alamgir Hossan, group general manager of Platinum Hotels by Sheltech, after he was named South Asia’s Best General Manager at the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) 2026, according to a press release.
The dinner was held at ZIZZI Banquet Hall at Platinum Grand in Banani and hosted by Hossan. The release said general managers, senior hotel executives, tourism industry leaders, and hospitality professionals attended.
Hossan received the award at the SATA 2026 Grand Gala on October 8 at Barceló Nasandhura Malé in the Maldives and was reported to be the first Bangladeshi to receive the regional honour. The 10th edition of the awards recognised hospitality businesses and professionals from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Platinum Residence by Sheltech also won Leading City Hotel (40 Rooms Below) at SATA 2026.
According to the release, Hossan began his career as a waiter at the former Hotel Sheraton in Dhaka and has worked in the hospitality industry for more than 22 years. He joined Platinum Hotels in 2017 and has overseen Platinum Grand in Banani and Platinum Residence in Uttara.
The evening offered a fitting reflection of Hossan's journey: from serving hotel guests early in his career to welcoming industry leaders in celebration of an achievement that has brought international recognition to Bangladesh's hospitality sector.
