Emirates has introduced what it describes as the world's first electrically powered Premium Economy seat, featuring a full-height adjustable privacy screen between every seat, the airline announced in a statement from Dubai.
The new seat is debuting on the carrier's newly received Airbus A350 aircraft, installed in a 2-3-2 configuration cabin with 28 seats. According to Emirates, the electric privacy divider extends to the full height of the seat, a feature the airline says is the first of its kind in Premium Economy cabins worldwide. The seats are 20 inches wide, with a pitch of up to 39 inches on the A350, and they recline into a cradle position without intruding into the row behind.
Customers can raise or lower the divider using integrated seat controls and lock it in place to create a more private space for relaxing, dining, or working, the airline said. The seat is Emirates' first fully electric Premium Economy product, allowing passengers to adjust their seating position via a Passenger Control Unit with preset options such as "lounge mode" and "meal mode."
The redesign also introduces Emirates' U-Dream headrest, made by Safran Seats, in leather with adjustable wings for personalised neck and head support, along with a manually deployable leather footrest. Wireless charging has been added to Premium Economy for the first time, in addition to USB-C ports at every seat and a tray table with an integrated phone holder.
Passengers will also have access to Emirates' ice inflight entertainment system on a 13.3-inch 4K HDR touchscreen. On newly delivered A350s, new left and right exterior aircraft cameras join the airline's existing forward and downward camera views.
Emirates said the seat builds on its wider Premium Economy offering, which includes meals served on Royal Doulton china with Robert Welch cutlery and a beverage selection featuring Chandon Vintage Brut 2021, an Australian sparkling wine available exclusively to Emirates Premium Economy customers. From September, select routes will also offer Chablis Premier Cru Jean-Marc Brocard 2024 and La Parde de Haut-Bailly 2014, with Wiston Estate Brut NV—the airline's first English sparkling wine—set to be introduced on UK routes in October.
Long-haul Premium Economy passengers also receive reusable amenity kits made with bio-based materials, developed in partnership with United for Wildlife and featuring skincare products from Aveda.
Emirates launched Premium Economy in 2022 and has since expanded the cabin across all markets served by its A350 fleet. The product has won awards, including "Best Premium Economy Class" at the Business Traveller Middle East Awards in 2024 and 2025 and "Airline with the Best Premium Economy Class" at the 2025 ULTRAs Awards.
