Five Bangladeshis among nine killed in Kolkata fire: Foreign ministry

Five Bangladeshi nationals, including four members of the same family, were among nine people killed in a devastating hotel fire in Kolkata, West Bengal, early Wednesday.
Local police confirmed the identities of five of the deceased as Bangladeshi nationals, while the identities of the remaining victims have yet to be confirmed by the local authorities, according to a foreign ministry press release.
Four of the five Bangladeshi victims were members of the same family, it said.
The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has already contacted the families of the deceased to provide necessary assistance.
Six other Bangladeshi nationals were injured in the fire and were released after receiving primary medical treatment.
Immediately after receiving information about the incident, officials of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission rushed to the scene and began collecting information about the deceased and injured.
Officials of the mission are maintaining round-the-clock contact with hospitals and local police to extend necessary assistance to the affected Bangladeshis.
The Deputy High Commission has also opened a 24-hour helpline to provide information and assistance related to the incident.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka and the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata are maintaining close contact with the relevant Indian authorities as they continue to monitor the situation.
