A helicopter of the European Union peacekeeping force in Bosnia crashed on Thursday, killing four personnel on board and injuring 11, the force said in a statement, as reported by The Associated Press (AP).
The Italian CH-47 Chinook went down during routine training in an area around the town of Brcko in the north of the country, according to the force known as EUFOR. It said the injured were in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.
The Bosnian news portal Klix published photos of the wreckage, showing a largely destroyed helicopter on a lawn.
EUFOR said a “thorough and complete” investigation was under way and that more information would follow. It said no civilian infrastructure, property, or vehicles were damaged, and no civilians were injured.
EUFOR’s 1,200-soldier mission took over from NATO in 2004 to help maintain security and oversee the military provisions of the peace agreement that ended the 1992-95 war. It operates under a United Nations Security Council mandate.
