ICAO to hold Green Airports Seminar in Cairo this month

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will hold its Green Airports Seminar 2026 in Cairo on October 29-30, bringing together aviation stakeholders to discuss cutting airport emissions and preparing airports for climate risks, according to an ICAO invitation.

The two-day event will be held at The St. Regis Cairo and hosted by the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN). It carries the theme “From Ambition to Implementation”.

ICAO said airports have a critical role in aviation decarbonisation, resilience and the shift to more sustainable operations and infrastructure as the sector works to reduce CO2 emissions and respond to growing climate-related risks.

The seminar will bring together States, airport operators, airlines, air navigation service providers, financial institutions, academia and international organisations. They will exchange experiences and identify practical approaches to sustainable and climate-resilient airport development, ICAO said.

The first day will focus on decarbonising airports, from operations to infrastructure. Topics include operational measures to cut aircraft emissions, decarbonisation of airport energy systems, noise management, resource circularity and sustainable plastic management.

Sessions will also cover Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), Lower Carbon Aviation Fuels (LCAF) and other cleaner energy options. Infrastructure readiness for electrified and hydrogen-powered ground support equipment, advanced air mobility and alternative propulsion technologies will also be discussed.

The second day will examine climate adaptation and resilient airports, including how climate risks are affecting aviation infrastructure and operations. Discussions will draw on climate science and real-world experience of extreme events, and will look at adaptation planning, infrastructure resilience, and the financing and partnerships needed to carry out measures at scale.

An exhibition will run alongside the seminar, giving organisations a chance to showcase products and services and explore partnerships. ICAO said interested organisations can find sponsorship and exhibition details on its event website or by emailing envevents@icao.int.

ICAO has invited organisations to nominate representatives. Registration, programme and speaker details are available on the ICAO event website.
