Air India has won the "Best Airline in India" and "Best Airline Staff in India & South Asia" awards at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, the airline said in a statement.
The awards were presented at a ceremony in London. Air India said it also received Skytrax's 4-Star Airline certification for its Business Class and Economy Class. Skytrax's star ratings run up to five.
The airline said the two awards are based on passenger feedback from what it described as the world's largest survey of airline passenger satisfaction. It said the staff award recognises frontline teams across cabin crew, airports, customer support and operations.
According to the statement, the honours follow Air India's recent move from a 3-Star to a 4-Star rating. The airline linked the results to its Vihaan.AI transformation programme, which covers fleet modernisation, upgraded cabins and lounges, digital services and staff training.
Air India said more than 130 narrowbody and widebody aircraft in its fleet are now either new or upgraded, including India's first Airbus A350 and new Boeing 787-9 aircraft. It also said its Net Promoter Score, a customer advocacy measure, has risen by more than 70 points, from -35 in late 2022 to nearly +40 today.
The airline said the score is in the high 60s on its A350 and 787-9 aircraft. These figures come from the airline and were not independently verified.
Campbell Wilson, Air India's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, received the awards along with cabin crew. He said the awards "belong to the more than 24,000 Air Indians" who drive the airline's transformation.
Wilson said the recognition reflects the progress made in recent years, but the airline remains focused on the work ahead and will keep investing in people, products, technology and customer service.
