Lufthansa has won the "World's Best First Class Onboard Dining" award at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, the German carrier said in a statement.

The award was presented in London on Friday, according to the airline. Lufthansa said the ranking is based on a Skytrax passenger survey in which 24.8 million travellers from more than 100 countries took part. 

Skytrax, which describes itself as an aviation research organisation, has run the annual survey since 1999. It covers more than 300 airlines.

Lufthansa said the First Class menu was developed with two-Michelin-starred chef Christoph Kunz and the catering company gategourmet. Skytrax also recognised the work of Lufthansa's First Class cabin crews, the airline said.

Since March 2026, First Class passengers on flights departing Germany have had a new fine-dining concept, with a wider selection and more flexibility in composing their menus, according to Lufthansa. 

The airline also highlighted its caviar service, a gourmet breakfast and a champagne selection. It said La Grande Dame by Veuve Clicquot is now offered as a permanent champagne in First Class for the first time. The airline said a team of experts, including four Masters of Wine, refreshes the wine list monthly.

Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, said the award shows that guests "are noticing the changes at Lufthansa". He said the airline is modernising its fleet, cabins and lounges and developing its services, and thanked employees on the ground and in the air.

Lufthansa said the catering is part of its Future Onboard Experience programme, which it links with new aircraft, its Allegris cabin product and modernised lounges under a broader premium strategy.
