Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has prohibited drone operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and all other airports across the country, citing national security and flight safety concerns.

Authority issued an official letter requesting all stakeholders to comply with the ban, which extends to airport surrounding areas. Decision follows an unauthorized drone incident on 19th December when electronic media personnel flew drones without permission during the reception of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi's body at the airport.

Drone operations took place in presence of three advisers and other dignitaries who had gathered to receive the body. CAAB warned that such flights pose serious risks to air operations and violate existing regulations.

According to Drone Registration and Operation Policy 2020, unauthorized drone flights in and around airports are strictly prohibited. Authority emphasized that violating this ban could jeopardize safe air travel and compromise national security.

CAAB specifically urged electronic media representatives and general public to refrain from operating drones near airport premises. Letter was issued on Tuesday.

Bangladesh aviation sector has witnessed several security incidents in recent months, including a major fire at HSIA's cargo section in October that was later determined to be caused by electrical short circuit rather than sabotage. Authorities have since intensified safety and security measures across all aviation facilities.

Drone technology has become increasingly accessible to media organizations and private citizens, raising concerns about unauthorized aerial photography near sensitive installations and flight paths.
