Aircraft leasing company Icelease has agreed with Boeing to convert one 767-300 passenger jet into a freighter, with options for two more, Boeing said in a press release on November 2.

Boeing said the first aircraft will enter conversion in the first quarter of 2027, and it expects to deliver it in the second quarter of 2027. The work will be done at ST Engineering’s airframe maintenance facilities in Singapore.

The two companies signed the agreement at a ceremony on October 22 at the Cargo Facts Symposium, according to the release.

Sighthor Einarsson, Managing Partner of Icelease, called the deal an important milestone for Icelease and its Dublin-based sister company, IAT Leasing. He said the 767-300BCF will join IAT Leasing’s managed cargo fleet, which already includes seven Boeing 737-800BCF aircraft and other freighters leased to various customers. He also said the relationship between Icelease and Boeing goes back more than 20 years.

Lindsey Douglas, Boeing’s vice president for Cabin, Modifications, Maintenance, and Digital Services, said Icelease is an important partner for its converted freighter programmes. She described the 767-300BCF as “a proven performer in the cargo industry.”

Boeing describes the 767-300BCF as the most efficient medium-widebody converted freighter in the world, with a range of 3,300 nautical miles and a payload of 57 tonnes.

Icelease has operated for 21 years and shares majority ownership with IAT Leasing, the release said. IAT Leasing was set up in late 2023 and has built a portfolio of around 40 passenger and cargo aircraft, owned by four equity partners and leased to airlines around the world.
