Sheikh Bashir Uddin exempted from Biman chairman post

Government has relieved Sheikh Bashir Uddin from his position as chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Sheikh Bashiruddin also served as adviser to Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism alongside his chairman role.
Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Biman-1 sub-section issued a notification on Wednesday announcing his relief from duty. Notification stated that under Section 30(c) of Bangladesh Biman Act 2023, government exercised its authority to relieve Sheikh Bashiruddin from Board of Directors chairman position at Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited according to his intention.
Sheikh Bashiruddin submitted resignation application from Biman chairman post on Monday, 16th February. His resignation letter was sent to Chief Adviser's office for approval the same day.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin was appointed chairman of the national flag carrier through a notification on August 26 last year. He replaced former chairman Muyeed Chowdhury in the position.
No successor has been announced yet for the chairman position. Ministry officials said further appointments will be made following due process.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the country's national carrier, operates both domestic and international routes connecting major cities across Asia, Europe and Middle East. Chairman position is considered crucial for strategic decision-making and operational oversight of the airline.
