US-Bangla Airlines has launched fully-funded cadet pilot training programme targeting academically talented students who lack financial resources, with applications closing on November 30.
Initiative addresses the growing pilot shortage as the carrier expands its fleet to 25 aircraft, including Airbus 330-300s and Boeing 737-800s. Since 2022, the airline has sponsored trainees at Epic Flight Academy in Florida, with 22 graduates already serving as pilots and five more nearing completion.
"This initiative isn't just about filling seats, it's about investing in Bangladesh's future," a company spokesperson stated. The programme aims to reduce financial barriers for talented students whilst strengthening national economic growth through employment creation.
Prospective cadets must meet strict eligibility criteria. Applicants need GPA 5.0 in both SSC and HSC examinations from the Science group, with minimum GPAs of 5.0 in Physics and Mathematics and 4.0 in English.
Candidates must be aged between 17 and 22, unmarried, and meet height requirements of 168 cm for men and 164 cm for women. Vision must be 6/6, and all candidates must obtain a Class-1 medical certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.
Additional requirements include being non-smokers, non-alcoholics, and having no criminal records. The selection process comprises IQ tests, written examinations in English, Mathematics and Physics, psychometric evaluations and oral interviews.
Successful candidates receive FAA-approved Commercial Pilot License training abroad, entirely funded by US-Bangla. Upon completion, cadets return to Bangladesh as First Officers with the airline. Seven trainees are currently awaiting placements as the company plans programme expansion.
