Saudi Arabia has welcomed its first W Hotel, with the global hospitality brand opening a new property in Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD).

In a statement, KAFD said the launch marks a significant step in strengthening the district’s hospitality offering, underscoring its appeal to leading international brands and reinforcing its position as a growing business and leisure destination.

The opening adds to a growing list of hotels in the district, including the Kimpton KAFD Riyadh, which opened last September. KAFD also signed a hotel management agreement has been signed with Hilton to operate a 450-room property within the development.

The W Riyadh features 210 rooms, 17 suites and two penthouses, alongside the brand’s signature penthouse offering. The property also includes seven restaurants and lounges, as well as an open-air poolside venue.

KAFD said the launch supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy by expanding the Kingdom’s portfolio of globally recognised lifestyle hospitality brands and meeting rising demand for high-quality, design-led hotel experiences.

Sultan Alobaida, chief commercial officer at KAFD DMC, said the opening reflects the district’s continued ability to attract international brands that enhance its business and lifestyle ecosystem.

“With Saudi Arabia targeting 150 million visitors annually by 2030, and tourism expected to contribute more than 10 percent of GDP, demand for high-quality, centrally located hotels continues to grow,” he said. “Hospitality is a core part of KAFD’s integrated offering, and the addition of W Hotels strengthens its position as a destination that brings together work, stay and lifestyle in a walkable environment.”

Erden Kendigelen, regional vice president for Middle East luxury at Marriott International, said the opening reflects the brand’s commitment to expanding in key destinations shaping the future of travel in the Kingdom.

“We are excited to welcome global travellers and residents to experience a new energy in Riyadh, where bold design, vibrant social moments and a distinct sense of place set a new benchmark for lifestyle luxury hospitality,” he said.
