Five flights have been cancelled following the closure of Riyadh airport after a Houthi attack, with the airport to remain closed until 3 am on October 12, Bangladesh time, according to CAAB.

“Five flights had been cancelled as of this morning,” Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) public relations official Muhammad Kausar Mahmud said.

In a subsequent update, he said Riyadh had announced that the airport closure would continue until 0300 hours on October 12, Bangladesh time.

The flight update listed cancellations involving Saudia flights SV804/805 and SV806/807, Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights BG339 and BG340, and Riyadh Air flights RX763/764.

Saudia flights SV804/805 had been scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 11:05 pm on October 10 and depart at 12:45 am today.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Dhaka-Riyadh flight BG339 was scheduled to depart at 2:05 am today.

Saudia flights SV806/807 had scheduled arrival and departure times of 9:45 am and 11:25 am, respectively, while Riyadh Air flights RX763/764 were scheduled to arrive at 7 am and depart at 8:30 am. All times are local.

The update also listed US-Bangla Airlines flight BS381, which departed at 3:10 pm on October 10, as diverted, recording an actual arrival time of 3:10 am.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines advised affected passengers not to proceed to the airport and said it would announce an update on the rescheduling or status of the flights today.

Passengers were advised to contact Biman’s call centre or visit their nearest sales office for assistance. Further updates would be available on its official website and communication channels, the airline said.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh today strongly condemned the October 10 attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which killed two Bangladeshi nationals and left numerous others injured, many critically, the foreign ministry said.

The Bangladesh mission in Riyadh is in contact with Saudi authorities to obtain details of the deceased and injured Bangladeshis and facilitate necessary assistance.

Bangladesh extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished all those injured a swift and full recovery.

“Attacks endangering civilian lives and targeting civilian infrastructure are unacceptable and must cease immediately,” the ministry said.

Bangladesh reiterated its solidarity with Saudi Arabia and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
