Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, the Religious Affairs Minister, stated on Sunday that the new government would not tolerate any irregularity in the management of the upcoming Hajj. He also issued a warning regarding the severity of any such wrongdoing or negligence.

"The government will not spare anyone for the slightest deviation in this regard,” he told a view exchange meeting with officials concerned at his office, adding that the same policy would also be followed for regular official activities.

Kaikobad said it was very easy for one to pose as a “good officer” by immediately following orders of a minister or secretary, but his office or the country does not benefit much from someone merely acting as a “good officer” in that way.

"There is no point in just pretending to be a good officer. To attain Allah's satisfaction and to earn one's salary in a permissible (halal) way, we must properly fulfill responsibilities we are entrusted with,” he said.

The minister said if works could be done properly with efficiency to take the country forward, “our discharge of duties will be meaningful," adding his relationship with officials would be built through delivery of service.

"If you do good work for the country and the ministry, I will be pleased. If you take one step forward in implementing government decisions, I will take three steps toward you," he said.

The minister, however, asked officials to inform him if any of his directives violated the rules and said they could as well approach him with personal difficulties for consultation.

Earlier, the minister was briefed about the introduction and activities of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Secretary of the ministry M Kamal Uddin, additional secretaries M Ayatul Islam, M Imtiaz Hossain, M Fazlur Rahman attended the meeting along with other officials when Kaikobad was briefed about the works of his portfolio.
