International Air Transport Association (IATA) has opened nominations for its 2026 Diversity and Inclusion Awards, marking the seventh edition recognizing excellence in equity and representation across global aviation sector.
Nominations close on April 5 and are open to all individuals and organizations in aviation industry. Awards ceremony will take place at IATA’s 82nd Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, later this year.
Three categories acknowledge different aspects of diversity progress. Inspirational Role Model Award celebrates women in senior air transport roles whose leadership has created lasting industry impact. High Flyer Award highlights female aviation professionals under 40 who actively promote diversity while making positive contributions. Diversity and Inclusion Team Award honors airlines achieving noticeable progress through dedicated efforts.
Jane Hoskisson, IATA's Director of Talent, Learning, Engagement and Diversity, explained the significance: "The three awards are so different and give the industry three paths for progress. They provide springboards for success in the sustainable future of aviation."
Last year's winners will judge entries, with panel chaired by Karen Walker, Editor-in-Chief of Air Transport World. Each award winner receives USD 25,000, payable to recipient or their nominated charity for diversity activities, sponsored by Qatar Airways.
Brazil location holds special meaning as Latin America contributed 35 signatories to IATA's 25by2025 project. "It is fitting that this region, in which such great progress has been made, should host these global awards," Hoskisson said.
Team Award requires board-level engagement and measurable outcomes demonstrating real community impact. Hoskisson noted: "We're searching for organizations committed to diversity and inclusion, backed by board-level engagement and measurable outcomes."
Awards gain added significance following conclusion of 25by2025 initiative, serving as marker of aviation's efforts toward creating diverse, inclusive air transport sector.
